About the Artist: Bernard Abelew

Bernard Abelew studied at the Art Students League and at the NY School of Design in NYC. He taught in the NY and NJ metro area and directed his own art school. He was on the staff of the Newark School of Fine Industrial Art.

Mr. Abelew’s paintings have been shown in the Newark, Montclair and Ohio Museums. His work is represented in Europe, Canada, Israel, Japan and Mexico as well as in the Unites States. He was the recipient of numerous awards in the New Jersey Tri-State area and won the prestigious James R. Marsh Award. The Newark Public Library purchased at a Sotherby’s Auction a piece of Mr. Abelew’s work, for their permanent collection.

Mr. Abelew has been critiqued as “… a virtuoso of impressionism. What Abelew does with his subject matter is to create an illusion. In his vibrantly imaginative way enjoying line and color with lilting freedom, he deals in pictorial implication rather than cold fact. This is impressionism.”
